For any questions you cannot find an answer to in the FAQ section or on the website of the Transatlantic Summer Academy on Sustainability regarding course contents, registration, accommodation, tuition fees, social program, etc. please write an email to email@example.com.
The tuition fee covers accommodation with full board, all sessions and material, excursions and trips, social program and costs for insurance. For US-American participants, travel costs up to 1.000 € will be reimbursed.
Not included are: costs for further subsistences and travel costs for German participants.
I won’t be able to join for the whole time. Is it possible to participate in the program for a shorter period of time?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. The number of available spots is limited and reserved for participants who will take part full time. The program is set up as a group learning experience. Therefore, it is essential to be there from the beginning until the end.
Yes, you may stay in Germany longer than the duration of the Transatlantic Summer Academy. Please do take care of your accommodation on your own (feel free to contact us if you need any help with that).
You should arrive in Bremen on July 20, 2017. We will do our best to organize all-day entry to the rooms on campus.
If you can, please bring a laptop or tablet computer for the lectures. You will also have the possibility to use computers at Jacobs University Library.

Both towels and bed linen are provided by the host University and the hostel in Hamburg.
If you are accommodated at Jacobs University Campus with full board (also on the weekend):
For one week: 40-50 € for additional snacks/drinks + 70-100 € for additional self-organized activities = 110-150 €
Of course you can organize your free time on your own. If you want to organize a social activity on your own or visit friends or family that live nearby, you are free to do so. Please keep in mind the time schedule of the program as it lives from your attendance.
We will give you an emergency number shortly before your arrival to Bremen for questions concerning the Transatlantic Summer Academy on Sustainability. For real emergencies, emergency numbers in Germany are the following:

Unfortunately, we can not grant academic credit points (ECTS) for participating in the Transatlantic Summer Academy on Sustainability. However, your university may decide on granting ECTS points based on their academic standards. Please consult the registrar’s office at your home university on this issue. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.
ECTS stands for European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System. It is a standard for comparing the study attainment and performance of students of higher education across the European Union and other collaborating European countries. 1 ECTS point is equivalent to 30 hours of work.

Generally, you can enter your room after 3 pm. We will do our best to enable all-day arrivals for you!
Please provide us with your flight/train details.
If you wish to be picked up at the airport or main station, please contact us. We will inform you about detailed directions before the academy starts.

There is Wi-Fi at the venue. You will receive login data upon arrival. You also have internet access in your room on the University campus.
Yes, it is possible to print at the venue. Yet, you will receive copies of all necessary course materials for free.
US participants: The nearest airports are Bremen or Hamburg. We will begin the program in Bremen and end in Hamburg. However, you will most probably find more connections to Hamburg than to Bremen and they will most probably be less expensive. The reimbursement of up to 1.000 € travel costs can also cover the train trip from Hamburg to Bremen.
So you might look for one of the following options:
- an open jaw flight arriving to Bremen and leaving from Hamburg
- flight to and from Hamburg (includes a train transfer Hamburg – Bremen of about 2-3 hours before starting the program)
- flight to and from Bremen (includes a train transfer Bremen – Hamburg of about 2-3 hours after finishing the program)
